Market and applications of construction plastics.

Although plastics are not always visible in buildings, the building and construction industry uses them for a wide and growing range of applications including insulation, piping, window frames and interior design. This growth is mainly due to plastics' unique features, plastics are known for their durability, aesthetics, high performance, and easy handling. In building and construction, plastic is mostly used in plumbing fixtures, insulation, doors, windows, bathroom units, railings etc. After the packaging industry, the building and construction industry is the largest consumer of plastics. Plastic is heavily used in fire safety equipment such as in smoke detectors and fire fighting systems in the building and construction sector. The various types of plastics used in building and construction include acrylics, polyethylene, polycarbonates, extended polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, etc. The main advantages of using plastics in building and construction are sustainability, innovation, cost efficiency, recyclability, and low maintenance. Mostly thermoplastics are widely used in the building and construction industry.


The aim of using plastics for lightweight construction is to achieve a maximum weight saving in individual components or parts by means of either the design, the material selection or the method of production. Plastics and rubber offer considerable potential in the field of lightweight construction, not only because of their low density compared with their metal and ceramic counterparts (i.e. weight saving attributable to the material), they also offer considerable flexibility in processing and design.

Since the construction of plastic with a light, inexpensive, etc., not only have been used in packaging industry such as PP woven bags,but also have been very widely used in the building. According to statistics data, the annual consumption of construction Plastic accounted for about 1/4 of total production of plastic, ranking the first in the application of plastics.

In fact, in Asia, South America and some other emerging market countries, the demand for construction plastics has rebounded significantly, particularly the demand for wood-plastic compounded materials, the demand increases 13% annual growth. With the economic recovery, consumers will remodel their houses, thus contributing to the development of wood-plastic compounded materials, plastic sides and other building products.

China is shortage of resources, the development of green building plastic especially has specific economic and social value. In recent years, green building plastics have been greatly developed, showing a good momentum. Experts point out that plastic materials which are non-toxic, harmless, non-polluting, will have high market demand in this century.

China's plastic building materials industry annually grows average over 15%, and has become the second largest industry behind the packaging industry. China's three major plastic building materials including profiles, tubes and plates have entered a period of steady growth, a number of green building materials began to accelerate the pace of development and to accelerate green building revolution.Some plastic products enterprises,such as the plastic film, HDPE drums,PP/PE moulding and PP bags manufacturers now pay more attention to the new applications for building.
